My Dream VAIO

About This Site

Considering that Sony has just turned 60 and who knows whats in store for VAIO, I figured that since I am a fanatic about VAIO products, why not blog about them. With the help of another good geeky friend of mine, Ubergeek, why not create a site that would allow us to rant and rave about all things VAIO. Its our way of trying to provide constructive feedback to the guys over at Sony working on these things. Hopefully, this site will gain enough attention that someone there will take note; and if we are lucky, we will get one step closer to creating the DREAM VAIO product.
Just as a little background on the two of us.

Fanatic

What can I say. I’m a geek. Educated with a Masters in mechanical engineering I love good product design. I wish there was more of it. Since I work for an IT company, I do my best to influence things in the right direction, but higher forces often prevail in the wrong. Ever since I fell in love with consumer electronics, I was drawn to Japan, so I decided to live there. After 9 years flew by I have finally decided to move back, but this has not diminished my fanaticism for all things electronic.

I can still remember my very first VAIO, the original C1 (or what was later called Picturebook in the US). I was actually working with IBM’s Thinkpad design group and they were in amazement at the compact size. Prior to purchasing the C1 I was drooling over the original 505. A true piece of art at the time. I guess that I went for the C1 for all the little goodies that came with it. Like the built in camera. Truly way ahead of its time. Even though I loved using my Thinkpad for work, I enjoyed playing with my VAIO. Ever since that I have continued to own and wish I owned a number of VAIOs.

I think that my collection of VAIOs is pretty large. I am up to 9 VAIOs total now, all in varying degrees of disarray.

I have not liked everything that VAIO has done. There have been a number of duds, to say the least. Not all of which have made it to the states. There have also been some really cool ones as well. The guys at VAIO have constantly tried to push the limits of what they do, often before anyone else has tested the waters.

I also feel that VAIO and Sony has a huge opportunity to get into the digital home as well. They have their foot in all the right product categories if they could just bring them together without cramping our free rights usage with a slew of incompatible DRMs and proprietary formats.
So stick around and lets see what we kind of fun we can stir up.
